Lesson One:

What you experience in any given moment is up to you! You choose. Good or bad, you choose!
An important lesson that I have tried to teach is that we have the power over how we react to things. The people and things around us may be out of our control but we have the power to choose, always, our response to life! In my counseling practice I often see people with anger issues. When asked, they always say they don’t seem to have control over their anger. They believe that it is something that just happens and they can’t seem to stop it. Yet, when I asked them if they ever act that way with their friends, or their co-workers or boss, they always say no. There are places that they have deemed it inappropriate to let their anger control them. In those places they do have control and they do not express their anger in ways that are hurtful and embarrassing. So, if they have control in some places why don’t they have control everywhere? This line of questioning always makes them stop and think… and then I come in with the killer question. So you do have control over your anger? What can they say? They have to answer ‘yes’. This awareness awakens in them the idea that maybe if they have control in some places with some people, they have control everywhere!!! The most important thing is how you see yourself in each situation. That will dictate how you behave! Do you see yourself as a victim? As someone who has no power and is subject to others? Or do you see yourself as powerful and able to choose your own destiny and therefore, choose your own responses in every situation? Whether you know it or not, you are divinely created, full of love and joy and happiness!!! Over the years I’ve asked a lot of people what they want for their lives and the most common answer is always the same, they want to be happy. It is simple really, especially when the choice is yours!

People are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. ~Abraham Lincoln~

I believe that we are solely responsible for our choices, and we have to accept the consequences of every deed, word, and thought throughout our lifetime. ~ Elisabeth Kubler-Ross ~

How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours. ~Wayne Dyer~

I cannot always control what goes on outside. But I can always control what goes on inside. ~Wayne Dyer~

There are only two ways to live your life.
One is as though nothing is a miracle.
The other is as though everything is a miracle.
~Albert Einstein~

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. ~Wayne Dyer~
